Counselor's Corner

Thank you for visiting Counselor’s Corner!  I’m Lauren Rout and I’m the school counselor for Warm Springs Elementary. I’ve been at Warm Springs for 10 years. I was a teacher for 7 years before becoming the counselor here. I feel very honored to be working with the best kids in San Bernardino! I look forward to the 2013-2014 school year and working with the parents and students!

My mission for the students at Warm Springs is to ensure that every student is provided the academic instruction needed to develop the skills, knowledge, and understanding required for academic, career, and personal/social development to function and contribute in a changing society.

As a school counselor we also have California Standards:
  • Engage, advocate for, and support all students in learning
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate programs to promote academic, career, personal, and social development
  • Utilize multiple sources of information to monitor and improve student behavior and achievement
  • Collaborate and coordinate with school and community resources
  • Promote and maintain safe learning environments for all students
  • Develop as a professional school counselor
With these standards as my guide, there are many services I provide to the students to help them become successful. The students are provided with a character development curriculum, Too Good for Violence, which provides them with eight essential skills: caring, cooperation, courage, fairness, honesty, respect, responsibility, and self-discipline. These skills will help the students in their academic, social, and emotional development. I also facilitate counseling groups on various topics such as: behavior modification, social skills, grief, social interaction, self-monitoring, friendship, cancer support, and more. I also visit classrooms and talk to students about health, hygiene, problem solving, motivation, and test taking strategies. Our school will have a Red Ribbon Week, Anti-Bullying week, Career Day, and Talent Show to build awareness in our students. I also run a Student Council with fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students to help build leadership skills and development. All programs have the foundation of being safe, being responsible, and being respectful.

Attendance is another area where we all need to work together to help our students become successful. We provide many activities and incentives for our students and classrooms that have perfect attendance. We want our students to thrive so it’s important that they are here everyday. Together we can make the difference!
