Advisory Council

                        August 19, 2019 Meeting Minutes

A regular meeting of Warm Springs African American Parent Advisory Council (AAPAC) was held on August 19, 2019 in Room E-1.  Chairperson Mary E. Johnson called the meeting to order at 10:43 am.



       Ms. Johnson reported that the AAPAC After-School Book Club (for K thru 4th graders) will restart in September this year with Book #7 (Sunset of the Sabertooth) of the Magic Treehouse series by Mary Pope Osborne.

       She also reported that she and Dr. Hib had met with Mr. Randall Olson of  the District Family Engagement Office. Mr. Olson stressed the importance of staff developing relationships with parents in general and African American parents in particular.  The District feels such relationships will have a significant impact on African American students' academic success. Developing such relationships is also a goal of AAPAC.

  Family Engagement Activities:

       The following motions were made by Ms. Elaine Porter, seconded by Ms.  Maria Guerrero and approved unanimously:

            " to implement the "Commit to Graduate" proposal presented by Ms. Johnson."

            " to have text messages regarding meetings sent to all parents of African American students."

            "to have minutes of AAPAC meeting minutes emailed to all parents of African American students."

            "to plan one or more activities (in addition to those planned during Black History Month) to celebrate African American culture.

Meeting was adjourned at 12:07 am.
